Shift Your Skincare Routine For Winter

10/6/2021

Our skin is a sensitive thing. It can end up significantly more dry and sensitive during colder months. When it comes to your face, switching up your skincare routine to combat cold weather can be a life saver. Here are a few tips to help keep your skin hydrated and happy.

1. Moisturize With Face Oil &/or Add Oil to Your Face Moisturizers

  • Olive oils and facial oils are great for dry skin. They protect your skin, calm down rashes and banish acne! When the cold is getting to your skin, start moisturizing with oils or add olive oil to your pre-existing routine to help keep your skin hydrated and happy.

2. Add a Toner

  • Toners can be used after your skin care routine to get rid of any last traces of dirt, grime and other toxic components in your pores. When toners are added to your skincare routine, it results in the positive impact of your appearance and cleansing of your pores.

3. Use Hydrating Cleansers

  • Hydrating facial cleansers also remove dirt, makeup and other debris. High brand cleansers like CeraVe, Aveeno and Neutrogena products clean your skin without disrupting your skin’s natural protective barrier and moisture. These cleansers add to the hydration and healthiness of your skin.

4. Don’t Constantly Expose Your Skin to Hot Water

  • Hot water can dry out and irritate your skin. When you consistently take hot showers or use hot water, you disrupt the outer layer of the skin that helps lock in moisture. Even though it may be cold outside, settle for semi-warm showers every now and then to best protect your skin.

5. Wear Sunscreen!

  • Winter has a very thin Ozone layer that come with freezing temperatures that leave your skin dry and agitated. This allows for the UV rays of the winter sun an easier shot at damaging your skin. Wearing sunscreen on winter-exposed sun will protect your face from the sun’s rays.

These simple add-ons and changes to your skincare routine will help your skin continue to feel moisturized during the winter months. Your skin will thank you as it will feel hydrated, happier, and healthier—and you’ll be ready to glow when spring and summer come back around.

Three Activities to Create a Happier Mood

7/12/2021

If you’re feeling down, unproductive, kind of gross and like you’re going throughout your day with no direction, you’re not alone! That kind of feeling is really easy to sink into! But there are a few ridiculously easy and effective ways to put that feeling back in it’s place. I’ve listed 3 that I believe have helped me a LOT in my unfruitful moods.

SHOWER
I 110% believe that showers hold unprecedented power that we for some reason, just don’t acknowledge. If you’ve ever felt instantaneously better after a shower, there’s real reason for it. Showers just tend to cleanse our soul and mind as they cleanse our physical being. They bring on inspiration, uplifted moods and more productivity and energy throughout the day. It goes even better when you add some tunes, crank that crap and jam the heck out. If you’re goin’ through it, seriously, go jump in the shower. Those private dance parties and thoughts do wonders.

JOURNAL
I feel like a broken record, but journaling out positive thoughts really does help create a happier mood. Taking even 2-5 minutes to list out things you’re happy about and grateful for can do wonders for your mood. Journaling is such an easy and effective activity to participate in. Even if you’re not journaling everyday, journaling 3-5 times throughout the week can help you out so much. I find it easiest to journal at the end of the day, and I typically take a few minutes to list the good/happy things that happened to me during that day. Actively bringing on that positivity will automatically start pushing that negativity out, so give it a try!

DISAPPEAR
Take an hour or two a day to just disconnect from the world. Hide your phone, silence it, or do whatever you need to so that you can just enjoy some serenity throughout the day. When we’re bored, inspiration comes about, creativity and passion arises. Disconnecting from social media and the constant influx of media and influences allows you to stay in tune with your own being. Being alone with oneself is really the key to creating happiness and accomplishing goals. It allows you to check off some of those chores Allowing yourself to really just focus on you and your mind for a bit—undistracted—will bring so much good to your life. Taking anywhere between 45 minutes to two hours a day to hone in on yourself and your passions will benefit you in SO many ways.

The simplest activities are often the most overlooked, but they really do so much good for us. The simplicity of tasks sometimes leaves people wondering if it really works or does anything. But the willingness to try these tasks, along with some consistency, can not only help you create your happier mood, but can continue to change your entire life overall. So give them a try.

Three Tips for a Top Tier Productive Morning

6/22/2021

Gaining control in your life again comes from a potentially productive day. And productive days come from productive mornings. A morning routine sets the tone for the rest of the day, which can either make or break your mood. Here are three tips to make your day instead of breaking your day.

1. Jump Up When You Wake Up
  • Get a productive start by jumping out of bed when you wake up. Don’t stall. Getting right out of bed is the start to taking the initiative you need for a good morning. Make your bed when you get up too! Making your bed helps your mindset get a kickstart on being productive; and if your bed is made, there’s a much more likely chance you’ll stay out of it.

  2. Get Some Exercise In
  • A half hour is really all you need. A good walk works perfectly. To get your body moving is the best way to set the tone for your morning and for the rest of your day. Exercise has been proven to reduce stress levels and increase energy levels. A morning walk is a great way to relax your mind and it gives you a chance to stay disconnected from the world for a little bit longer.

  3. Journal &/or Read
  • Journaling or reading for a little while before you start your day is a great habit to get into. Journaling gives you the chance to think about things your grateful for to set a positive mood for your day, and journaling also allows you the list out the things you need to accomplish for the day. Sometimes a visual helps aid in productivity. Reading gives you the chance to remain in a relaxed state, while also getting your creative juices flowing for whatever your day holds.

These three tips are incredibly simple, and yet, incredibly helpful. Start practicing them as often as you can so that your fruitful and happy mornings can begin.

Beginners Guide to Getting Your Life Back

5/23/2021

So, you’re not feeling well. Not mentally, not emotionally, not physically, not at all. The struggle of finding balance once again in life seems like an impossible job. Well-balanced people have far more work to do to stay balanced. Those who aren’t balanced obviously have far more less work to do—at least that’s how we feel—that’s why we don’t do anything to change.

What does a healthy life balance mean to you? What does it mean altogether? How do you want to go about finding your balance? How should you go about it?

Here are 5 beginning steps to get your life back.

1. DISCONNECT & DISAPPEAR
  • Get off of social media, stop answering your calls, stop answering your texts. If it’s for a weekend, or a few hours a night, disconnect, disappear. Give yourself a break. Hangout with just yourself. Journal, read, clean, drive. Spend time alone and allow yourself to reconnect with yourself for just a little while. It makes all the difference.

2. PAY MORE ATTENTION TO YOU
  • Your health is incredibly important, so start prioritizing it. When you tune into your health, you tune into what you really need. You start listening to what your body needs, what your mind needs, what your heart needs. When you’re listening and honoring what your body is requesting, balance within yourself will automatically start to restore. So start listening, stop ignoring.

3. YOUR RELATIONSHIPS MATTER
  • You don’t have to do it all alone. The people you allow in your life, matter. Those who you allow to influence you, matter. Those who you allow to either lift you up or drag you down, matters. If you’re trying to restore balance in your life, you need to recognize who cares for you and will support that. You need to recognize those in your life who will allow you to grow for yourself before you continue to help others. That support system is going to help your process go so much smoother.

4. EXPLORE & EXPAND
  • Just like it’s important to disconnect to be with yourself, it’s important to explore the world around you while you’re doing that. Take a new route in your walks or drives. Take the weekend for a roadtrip. Expand your awareness in your life. Take a class for a hobby you’ve been interested in. Read that book you’ve been putting off. Listen to new music you’ve been curious about. Just find what interests you. Find what interests you and go for it all.

5. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT
  • How cliche, right? How lame. But also, seriously, is it not true? You are in charge of you. You are in charge of your outcome. You are in charge of your change. You are as capable as you allow yourself to be. You’re the only one who can schedule time to do the dishes or put a load of laundry in because it’s been piling up. You’re the only one who can put everything else off because you just really need a break for the weekend. You’re the only one who can choose to love yourself. You’re the only one who can choose to make the small changes so that you can start feeling better about potential new outcomes in life. Life is what you make it. So make it something you’re incredibly thrilled to be apart of.

We can’t change everything at once. We have to make small changes. Changes that are small enough that feel so minuscule, it’ll feel almost too easy to start feeling better again. These small adjustments that we make overtime is that exact process that will allow us to find a new set of positive life habits to build off of.
